Quick verdict
For most people the SmartBuy 3-speed in steel is the best buy: good airflow, washable filters and a huge discount today. To spend less, the SmartBuy in steel and glass; and for the hood with the most extraction and brand backing, the Siam.
What to look for before buying
- Width (to match your cooktop) — The hood must cover the width of your cooking area. The standard is 60 cm; if you have a 50 cm cooktop, a 60 cm still works (better too much than too little). Being narrower than the burners is the most common mistake: it doesn't capture the smoke from the sides well.
- Airflow (m³/h) — It's how much air it moves per hour: it defines how fast it clears smoke and odors. The bigger the kitchen and the more frying you do, the more airflow you need. A good reference is 400-750 m³/h for a home kitchen.
- Recirculating or ducted — The recirculating one filters the air (with a carbon filter) and needs no duct to the outside: easy to install in any kitchen. The ducted hood sends smoke outside through a pipe: it extracts odors better, but requires installing the duct. If you can't run a pipe, recirculating is the solution.
- Filters — Metal (aluminum) grease filters trap grease and are washable (some go in the dishwasher): they last forever. Activated carbon filters, in recirculating models, remove odor but saturate and need replacing every several months. Check the cost and availability of the replacement.
- Speeds and lighting — Two or three speeds let you use low extraction day to day and max when you fry. Built-in lighting illuminates the burners and adds convenience. And mind the noise: at max speed they're all fairly loud, but the best ones don't deafen you.

| Serie Dorada Slim 60cm Recirculating Kitchen Extractor | $ 152.100 | 12 | — | MercadoLibre |
A range hood clears the smoke, steam and frying odors before they soak into the whole house and grease up the cabinets. The decision comes down to the width (to match your cooktop), the airflow, and whether it’s recirculating (no duct) or ducted to the outside. We compared the best-sellers on MercadoLibre Argentina.
What to look for
- Width: it should cover your cooking area; 60 cm is the standard.
- Airflow: 400-750 m³/h for a home kitchen; more if you fry a lot.
- Recirculating or ducted: recirculating filters the air (no duct, easy to install); a ducted hood vents smoke outside (better extraction, needs a duct).
- Filters: washable metal (grease) and carbon (odor, replaceable).
Our pick
For most people, the SmartBuy 3-speed in steel is the most rounded buy: good airflow, washable filters and a huge discount. To spend less, the SmartBuy in steel and glass; and for more extraction with brand backing, the Siam hood.

Frequently asked
Recirculating extractor or ducted hood?
It depends on whether you can run an exhaust duct. The ducted hood sends smoke and odors outside through a pipe: it extracts best, ideal if you fry a lot, but requires running the duct to a wall or ceiling that opens outside. The recirculating extractor filters the air through a carbon filter and returns it clean to the kitchen, with no duct: it installs anywhere and is the practical solution if you can't (or don't want to) open up for ducting. It removes odor a bit less, but for most kitchens it's enough.
What width do I need?
The hood should cover, at minimum, the width of your cooking area. The standard is 60 cm, which suits most kitchens and cooktops. If your cooktop is 50 cm, a 60 cm also works (better too much). What you want to avoid is it being narrower than the burners, because then the smoke from the sides escapes uncaptured.
How often do I clean or change the filters?
Metal (grease) filters should be washed every 2-4 weeks depending on how much you cook: they come out and go in the dishwasher or get washed with degreaser. Activated carbon filters (only in recirculating models) aren't washed: they saturate and get replaced roughly every 3-6 months, depending on use. A dirty metal filter or a saturated carbon filter greatly reduce effectiveness, so it's part of the maintenance.
