Frequently asked questions

Questions about how the site works. If you were looking for help choosing a product, that's in How to choose.

Updated on July 23, 2026

Are the prices you show up to date?

Yes. Every morning an automated process queries the MercadoLibre API and updates the price of every product in every guide. If a price went up, we show it higher; if a discount ended, we remove the struck-through price rather than leaving it to make the offer look better. At the top of each guide you'll see the exact date of the last check. That said, MercadoLibre prices can change at any point in the day: the one that counts is always the one on the listing, and our link takes you straight there so you can confirm before paying.

Does buying through your links cost me more?

No, not a cent. You pay exactly the same price you'd pay going straight to MercadoLibre. Our commission comes out of the seller's margin, not your pocket. It's literally free for you, and it's what funds the site.

Do brands pay to appear in your guides?

No. We don't sell mentions, ranking positions or reviews. No brand can buy a slot. On top of that, every product in a guide carries the same kind of affiliate link, so we have no incentive to push you towards the most expensive one: in fact, in most of our guides the 'best overall' pick is not the priciest on the list.

Do you physically test the products?

No, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. We have no lab and we receive no review units. Our analysis is based on verifiable public data: spec sheets, real prices, seller reputation, sales volume and brand support in the country. When you read 'we tested this for 200 hours' on another site of this kind, it's worth asking whether that's true.

How do you decide which products go in a guide?

Each guide defines its own criteria, because you don't choose an electric kettle with the same checklist as a laptop, and those criteria are listed and explained inside the guide. Broadly, a product gets in if it has real availability with stock and shipping, a seller with consistent reputation, a sufficient spec sheet, a coherent price and a brand with service in Argentina. It's all detailed in our methodology.

Does CompraGuide sell the products?

No. We sell nothing, process no payments and ship nothing. We're a comparison site: we help you choose and send you to the MercadoLibre listing, where you buy directly from the seller.

I have a problem with a purchase — can you help?

Unfortunately we can't: we have no access to your orders and no way to intervene. If something didn't arrive, arrived faulty, or you want to return it or claim the warranty, you need to handle it directly with the seller and the marketplace you bought from, who hold your order and their own complaints policies. It does help us if you let us know the problem was with a product we recommended, so we can review it.

Do I need an account to use the site?

No. All the guides, the comparison tool and the assistant are free and work without registering. An account only matters if you want to save price alerts and find them later from another device. It's created with a magic link to your email, no password.

How do price alerts work?

You tell us which product you want to track and we email you when the price drops. Because prices are refreshed every day, the alert fires on current data, not on something from a month ago. You can unsubscribe whenever you like.

What is the comparison tool for?

To put two or three products side by side and see how they actually differ beyond price: features, quality, materials, reviews and who each one suits. It's most useful when you're torn between two models from different brands whose spec sheets don't describe the same things in the same way.

What do you do with my email?

We use it only for what you asked: sending the newsletter, notifying you of an alert, or replying to a message. We don't sell it, share it or use it for third-party advertising. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and if you want your data deleted, write to us and we'll do it.

Do you use AI to write the guides?

We use AI tools to process catalogues, organise data and draft text, and every guide is reviewed before publication. The important part: the hard data — prices, links, availability, brands — always comes from the MercadoLibre API, never from a language model. AI helps us write faster; it doesn't decide what gets recommended and it doesn't invent products.

Do you only cover Argentina?

For now, yes: every product we recommend is available on MercadoLibre Argentina, with real stock and shipping within the country. That's precisely why the site exists, because generic translated guides recommend things you can't actually buy here. The site is also in English, but the products are still from the Argentine market.

I found an error — how do I report it?

Write to us and we'll fix it. A price that doesn't match, a broken link, a product that's no longer available or a spec that's wrong: it's the most useful message you can send us. We read every one.

Didn’t find your answer?

If your question is about how the site works and it isn’t here, get in touch: we read every message, and if a question comes up repeatedly we add it to this page.

If your question is about which product to buy — how many BTU you need, whether a tank or tankless water heater suits you, how much RAM a laptop should have — that’s in How to choose, where we answer that kind of question one at a time.

And if you want the long version of how we work, it’s all in our methodology and the affiliate disclosure.
